So, on the busiest shopping day of the year…

It’s been a while since we’ve done this, so let’s find some new homes for horses!

READ THIS: IMAGES!  Please just post the direct link to your image and I will make it into an image.  The IMG link does not work.  HTML only works for me.  I don’t know why.  If you know why and are a WordPress guru, please tell me.  Right now only admins can make images and I haven’t found a setting to explain this.

Okay…that said, if you are shopping for a particular horse, please list the details of what you are looking for along with a contact e-mail address so that anyone who has what you want can get in touch.

If you know of someone who is shopping for a particular horse, please fill us in!

Finally, if you have a horse/horses for sale, yep, you can list them here.  Free service to my readers.  :-)   I have one request – please learn to size your pics.  Google “free online pic resize” and you will find services to do this for you.  Using pictures that are no more than 400 pixels wide really speeds up the site for everybody and is very much appreciated.

Here’s what I have requests for at present – if you have candidates, e-mail me.

- A medium to large pony, SAFE and suitable for hunt/western lessons.  This is in Los Angeles and it is an excellent home with only the best of care.  They will buy or care lease.

- An unbroke young Arabian, at least 15.1 hands (really!  As in, you used a stick with a level!) suitable for an endurance prospect.  This is in Washington state.

Here are some of the good horses I know of that are for sale right now (and if it’s on this list, I’ve ridden it myself).  If interested, e-mail me and I’ll hook you up with the owners.

- Large POA pony mare, hardship registered, I’d call her about 60% finished for the show ring hunt seat – sets her head, fantastic at walk/trot, still needs more collection at the canter.  She has a killer jog and will be great western too, but needs to learn to neck rein.  10 years old.  Has blues hunt and western at schooling shows, reserve champion senior mare at POA show.  Very safe under saddle but can be pushy (alpha mare type) on the ground and will need to have ground manners enforced on a regular basis.  Plenty stout enough to pack a medium sized adult. Ideal for someone who wants to feel safe on the trails.  This one is in the Tacoma, Washington area.  Shown at left.

- Medium POA pony mare, hardship registered.  Three excellent gaits, currently in training o/f, but not as bombproof as the first pony. This one is for an experienced child, but she is super fancy (looks to have some Welsh in there, much more fine/elegant than a typical POA) and has a great jump.  She is six years old.  The holes are:  Sensitive in the face, would not tolerate heavy hands, occasionally spooks, and can pull back when tied.  But absolutely sound, clean legged and loooooves to jump!  I would not put more than 120 – 130 lbs. on her due to how finely built she is.  She is in Portland, Oregon.  Video (requires QuickTime)

- Big solid buckskin gelding, honest 16 hands, does it all – trails, been roped off of, beautiful hunt seat horse, had some basic dressage work.  I absolutely love this horse.  For an intermediate or better rider with soft hands.  He has a mild stifle issue so he needs to be ridden very regularly – not for a weekend rider.  Ten year old.  He is a sweetheart with no vices, ties anywhere, loads great.  Very big, fancy, floaty trot on this horse, super super comfortable gaits.  It is hard to think of a direction he couldn’t go – he’s very versatile and just a super cool horse.  He has all the paperwork to register him ApHC if desired – breeder didn’t follow through, but the paperwork is there. Tacoma area.

As always, I can get you a FREE THOROUGHBRED in the Seattle area.  If you want a Thoroughbred and are prepared to take on an OTTB (this means you will need to pay board for at least 3 months while they detox from racing, at a facility with Thoroughbred-appropriate fence (no barbed wire, no hot tape only)) and you are an experienced enough rider to restart one from racing or pay to have it done.  I can also hook you up with a WIDE variety of Thoroughbreds, some with show experience, for under $1000.  If you are on the East coast in the land of insane prices, you really might want to consider a shopping trip to Seattle or out to see Joe at TB Friends in California.  You would not believe the stuff we can hook you up with for under $1000.  Seriously.  Even with hauling, you could save a lot of money.  As with any horse, vet before you buy if you want to reduce your risk.

So what’s on your shopping list?

Looking for Appaloosa gelding or mare (no preference) or appaloosa foal, colored (blanket or near leopard). Has to be big enough (at least 15.1 hh and a bit on the stocky side). Will be trail horse (or trail horse to be if foal). Horse will have forever home with me and will be very well treated. I am in Quebec, Canada… if you have something that would match my needs and that is not overpriced, please contact me at em_valliere@hotmail.com (NO SPAM, please).
    Thanks!!!!!

I MAY have something that might suit you…I have a 2 yr old (coming 3) QH gelding…pretty dark palomino (not chocolate or anything, but a nice golden color) 3 socks and a blaze…14.2hh…not sure if bloodlines matter or not, but he’s all cutting/reining bred (Freckles Playboy, Boon Bar, Doc’s Hickory, Black Little Lena…all ON his papers)…started on ground work (he was a late bloomer, that mare’s 1st foal) no bad habits, 100% smart, sound and sane…would excel at cattle events but would more then likely be a good little all arounder…I live in Ontario, Canada…but I’m only 15 mins from the Michigan bridge at Port Huron…
If you’re interested email me at doubletph@hotmail.com and I’ll send the link to my website…

I have 2 that may interest you…one 6 yr old Gelding, big extra stocky 15.3 bright chestnut. Registered with APHA as breeding stock. He is safe on the ground, and started under saddle, but due to husbands health, his work has been very inconsistant. He needs a JOB. He loves to please and is quite personable. He moves great…could do both but will do better at english/dressageSound and healthy, current on all.

The other is a 3 yr old grulla filly. She was very lightly started under saddle this summer. Safe on the ground, VERY FRIENDLY…pocket pet. She is registered AQHA, and eligible for about any color registry you want to send money too as well as the foundation registries…I just haven’t felt the need to spend the money. She is smaller, 14.3 – will probably finish at 15. She is more western, but you can push foward. If Interested, jwr2413@gmtel.net

I don’t know how far you’re willing to travel but my trainer has an adorable 5 year old TB gelding for sale here in NJ. He is definitely an great all around horse. He has done a little bit of everything- hunters, jumpers, eventing (combined test), trails, a parade, and was at the 4H fair- he’s super fun- I love hopping on this guy. You’ll be able to do whatever you want with him!! He’s 15.2 and change.. I have been around this horse for vet/farrier/dentist and he’s a gentleman. He trailers really well, too. She really wants to find him a home that’s going to love him to pieces.. here’s his equine.com ad with pictures:

The trainer I ride with has several horses/ponies for sale you might be interested in and her barn is just north of Cincinnati, OH Her web site is here:

      http://www.littlebitofsunshinefarm.com/

It’s not very up to date, as she has several for sale/lease that aren’t listed. But I’d recommend e-mailing her about Artie (“The Real Deal”) who I’ve been riding a lot recently. He’s a bay pony, still fairly green, but very willing. He’s completely honest over fences, just needs a soft hand and steady leg. He needs some more work on collection, but he’s getting there.

Ziggy (“Triple Play”) is her OTTB that has a lot of experience in hunters. He’s honest and has a nice, easy gait to ride. He doesn’t like his ears touched, but that’s his only vice. He’s been off for a while and would need some conditioning, but he was jumping 3′ hunters/eventing earlier this year.

She’s got a few pony babies that aren’t listed on her site either. There’s two almost-yearling colts who are complete gentlemen right now, and one 3-year old gelding that has been started under saddle.

Anyway, check her out and give her a call/e-mail and I’m sure she’d send along info. on any of them she has for sale. Tell her (Susan) Hannah sent ya!

ODH: here’s a leopard I saw yesterday but it’s far from you: http://eastoregon.craigslist.org/grd/1446247728.html

I have a rescue for adoption:

    When we got him: http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/ee208/carriehoof/fam/?action=view&current=wooly2.jpg
    Him in August: http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/ee208/carriehoof/?action=view&current=yetisaddle.jpg

“Yeti” was rescued on 2/1/09, from a dire situation. He is 2 years old (3 in 2010), and has a very easy going personality. He’s going to top out around 14hh, and about 900# (has more growing to get there)… After researching Yeti’s past, we found out his front right leg is turned out from an injury when his dam stepped on him as a foal. He bares full weight, gets around well, and doesn’t seem to have any major issues with his movement. Just playing in the pen, he has lovely sliding stops and spins and picks up both leads fine, proving his coordination. He should be sound for minor pleasure riding. Until his adoption, he will be handled by size appropriate 4-H kids in our training program. Trimming and worming UTD, Gelded, vacc. UTD. Yeti has had no trouble loading in the trailer, ties well, was easy to worm and vaccinate. He respects electric fencing (as long as it’s on), and he has done great with going inside buildings, stalling, blanketing, bathing and clipping. We took him to our county fair and he was in halter/showmanship classes. He sat calmly during the mounted shooting demo, and did great around all the rides/speakers/lights. He has done well around children, dogs, cats and chickens. He gets along with all our other horses/ponies of all ages & sizes, but tends to be at the bottom of the pecking order. His dam was primarily of Thoroughbred breeding, and his sire was a buckskin of unknown parentage. In his previous home he had loung work, along with being saddled and lots of time with children handling him. In Yeti’s training there must be fokus on motivation, as he tends to be a little bit lazy. He is an in-your-pocket pony, that will follow you anywhere (super easy to catch). Yeti’s adoption fee is $300 to help cover his expenses of castration, farrier, feed, worming, vacc. ect. Delivery may be available for traveling expenses depending on location. (*lastest update, he has had several rides from youth riders and is going to be a fun project if he doesn’t become a pet/orniment… he comes with front boots to help protect from interfearance during “work”… lots more photos and info on this sweet boy- just contact me)

Oh, hooray, a clearing house for horse shopping. We need this, especially in light of Joe’s TBFriends blog this morning about horses coming to California from out of state and people getting $40 per horse to put them in feed lots (while the KBs stand around drooling at all the “free money” they are going to have in their bank accounts this holiday season — Joe did not comment about the KBs, this is my spin on things).

I wish I had time/room/money for another horse, but I do not. I totally agree with Cathy’s caveat at the end — have the horse vetted so you know EXACTLY what you are getting. My $1250 OTTB has cost a lot in vet bills to get him sound, but he was “fixable” and while it has also been a long journey, it has been very rewarding — and he has been sound and happy for the last eight years. He requires maintenance (regular hock injections), and his shoeing must be regular and precise. This is a small price to pay for the enjoyment I get from riding and taking lessons on this stellar fellow.

Am interested to read what everyone is looking for in the horse department.

    Horses for sale:

Arab gelding – 9 years old, registered, well broke – walks, trots, lopes, stops, backs, lead changes, been shown and trail ridden plus done a few 25 mile endurance rides, 15.1, bay. I have been his only owner. Healthy, UTD on shots, deworming, has coggins. Doesn’t need shoes – solid feet. Excellent ground manners. Sweet boy – easy to catch and loves attention. Email for pics and more info. There is video on youtube under “breunarabians”. ALl the videos were taken by an amateur and were taken with no warm-up or anything special – just hoppen on and rode in front of the house going right past his buddies in the field. Goes out alone or in a group with no problems. Asking $1000.

Arab filly – 3 years old, Simeon Shai great-granddaughter, bay. 14.1-2 – growing so I need to remeasure. Very sweet, not broke or started. She is easy to handle on the ground. Very cute. Endurance prospect I would say. I got her from her breeders – she was already in foal to Rhocky Rhoad, sabino Arabian standing in SD. Due in spring of 2010. Asking $1500 for her, $2000 if foal is included (stud fee is $1000 in itself). UTD on everything. Healthy and sound.

AQHA mare – Pitzer branded, GREAT working western bloodlines. 14.3 and STOCKY. Has been a broodmare for her 9 years, I started her under saddle this spring, about 90 days of riding on her. Doing well – she learns quick. Had a nice Appy filly in the spring before I got her. UTD on everything. Healthy and sound. $500

Appy weanling filly – daughter of above mare, great bloodlines on both sides. Kind of standoffish so needs someone with time and patience. Healthy. UTD on shots and deworming. Bay – SOLID right now, shedding to maybe be a snowcap? $200 to a good home.

2 TB fillies – Storm Cat breeding on both, 1/2 sisters. Got these in a trade gone sour. Healthy and sound. Haven’t measured but maybe around 15 hands? Both bay. nice fillies – very friendly and easy-going. Been longed and saddled before I got them. I haven’t done anymore because they are only 3 and seem immature so I wanted to let them grow. $250 each to a good home or $400 if someone wants both.

Email for pics and info. I am in Minnesota. email abreun@live.com for info. I have pics and can get video of any of them. Thanks!

I have a dark dun pony filly 7 months old that needs a great home. I rescued Mom (Hackney X Welsh), with two babies by her side (yearling and a two year old!) and in foal. Everyone else is placed, but I still have the little one. Her sire is a Doc O Lena bred dun QH. I am guessing that she will be a good sized pony. Would be a beautiful driving pony. Located in La Grande, Oregon. E-mail

Here in Colorado I’ve got a Belgian/QH cross mare that I would like to re-home. She is 16.1 or maybe 16.2 hands and BIG. She is build like a Belgian but with more refinement. She is 14 years old and a good trail horse. She has many western trail miles and is very easy to handle. She can be slightly spooky about man made objects like meter boxes, but she is a “stand and stare” spooky, not a “throw you and run off” spooky. She would make an excellent husband horse and dwarfs my 6 food 4 husband. I purchased her for him to ride, but he doesn’t really have an interest. I would prefer to sell her saddle with her, it is a Tucker that fits her wide shoulders and back. If you already have a good draft sized saddle I will sell her without it. Alone I’m asking 2500.00 and with the saddle 3500.00. I am negotiable to a great home. I’ve just started looking so I don’t have a set of sales photos but here are some photos of her at home. http://www.flickr.com/photos/webber0075/tags/dolly/

  11. madchickenlittle says:

Oh, fabulous! I am looking for a schoolmaster type to take my daughter through her D and C (and up??) level Pony Club. Not too worried about size as long as it isn’t a Shetland size – (large pony and up.) Needs to be sound, not spooky, no buck, bite, kick habits, solid ground manners, good w/t/c, jump to 2′6″, and safe cross-country. Prefer English trained over Western Pleasure with jumping experience. We are a good home (pretty sure everyone says that, but I have references!) I can cope with minor issues like arthritis, or special food/supplement needs but I prefer not hock injections (I tend to turn these into pasture pets rather than make them get shots, very expensive to collect pasture pets, DH says no more). Issues with special care that are minor (like the stifle problem above) aren’t a deal breaker, but recurrent unsoundness is a problem. We ride four days per week, so we need a buddy to do this with us.

We live in Alaska, so if it is Outside the state, then we can’t come and get it until Spring :( unless you know of a winter hauler (I am told it happens, but I don’t know how!)

    Thanks! (madchickenlittle@gmail.com)

I have several pony prospects available in the spring, in Fort Nelson BC. Im not on my computer right now so I don’t have pictures. I will send you some when I get home on the 15th.

-16yrs unregistered welsh mare. 13.2, w/t/c, has done some low jumping, around1.6′. Sound, buckskin.
-4yr old appy/welsh/arab gelding. 14.1, just started. Will continue training over winter. Currently w/t, very round, willing, good to catch/trim/load. Very athletic, fast learner. Hes a dark bay with a blanket, also has black spots in the blanket. Arab head, nice topline. Sound
-I also have a q/h welsh mare. She about 14.2, solid broke, english/western neck reins, very easy, naturally collected, jumps 3.3, has been used for beginner lessons. Bay, nice topline. Very willing, good on trails, crosses anything. Vices- hard to catch is she is in a big area and needs chiro every 2 months for her SI’s. As long as the chiro and stratches is maintained she is sound. We also have her on MSN
      - We also have several trained horses ranging from 15-16.2hh. Have been used as lesson horses. All are sound and between ages 10-18.

Let me know if you want pictures

This is pretty specific, but maybe one of you will see one of these horses that I’ve been searching for, especially the starred mare.

Fatal Caper: 2000 Bay (?) TB mare, Town Caper x Ah Fatal (Ahmad). Raced.
-Capers Edge: 2006 Bay (?) TB colt/gelding, Definite Edge x Fatal Caper. Unraced.
**Deadly Caper: 2004 Bay (?) TB mare, Town Caper x Ah Fatal (Ahmad). Unraced.

Any of these horses will find a fabulous home with their amazingly talented full brother (in the case of the mares) and will be used for dressage or eventing, or just a pretty face, depending on their ability and any problems.

I have a 1/2 Arab for sale. He is in training and going really nicely. He is 4. We got on him at 2 1/2 and backed him, then left him alone until his 4YO year. We are now working him. He goes W-T-C and moves like he has been collecting his whole life. He has been ridden on trails, now has been schooled XC at HHP and has schooled 2′9″ in the arena. We have yet to see his ‘limit’ anywhere close. He is too small for me. He will go nicely in Eventing, could Endurance with the best of them. He is 15.1H, black and smart as a whip.

You can see him at http://www.youtube.com/user/rinny930#p/a/u/0/vZhS0sm6O3U
He has about 16 rides on him in that video and I did not edit it…so there is plenty of trot and canter to watch.
He is located in Central Indiana and I want him to go to a working home, as he gets FAT sitting around.

  14. Vincenza says:

Oh, and might as well help out a mare. I worked with this pony before my car epically died on me and hope to start it up again. She’s around four years old, so almost five if you consider it. Even though she’s part Arabian and young, Belle is pretty mellow about things. She walked over a tarp on the first time, pops right over a small bale and barrels in hand, and all it takes to load her is lead her up to the trailer (without a ramp), lead rope over her neck, and snap your fingers behind her butt. She leads well, picks up her feet (though she’s still a bit sensitive on her left hind, you just have to be slow and gentle), and bathes. She ties and you CAN catch her in a pasture. She lunges, stands at a mounting block to be mounted, and rides super light walk, trot, canter. She wears a bridle, but I started her and rode her in a rope halter, so she stops, turns, and rides in just that. Belle loves going over trot poles and has a super cute jump from the little that I’ve seen. Belle should be an excellent little prospect for hunters, though personally I think she’d love to take a bold little girl out eventing at Beginner Novice and maybe Novice. Belle is located at JD Acres Horse Rescue (http://jdacres.org/) in California, and they have plenty of other horses for you to consider, although this little pony is definitely my favorite.

I am starting university again in the fall, so it would be nice if my mare could go to a nice home where she can get more attention.

She is an Arabian X Standardbred mare, about 19 years old. She is not registered, and I do not know her full history. I was told she had been a schooling horse, and for certain everything I’ve ever thrown at her she has been able to pick up on super quickly if she didn’t already know it.

She has some problems with her back and hips. I’m guessing arthritis. I have her on synovicare ad she loves her massages. I haven’t been riding her for a while, but she is still sound.

I am in Ontario, and if you’re looking for a sweet mare to hug, kiss, and do casual riding with, I would LOVE to hear from you.

We have a TB for sale. My daughter purchase him about 5 years ago, at one point traded him to a friend for a paint. The friend took the TB home and after about a year said she couldn’t keep him there anymore, could she board him with us. We went and got him and he was skin and bones. We got him fattened back up, slick and shiney. After about a year, he was losing weight again and we asked her to have his teeth checked. Pretty much were moving up to harassing her to do this and instead, she proclaimed that she didn’t want him anymore. The day he became ours again, we had his teeth floated and he’s kept good weight for the past year or so now.

King is 12 or 13 (can’t exactly remember). He’s 16hh and a super sweetie. His height is the reason he’s for sale (although we actually haven’t advertised him for a while). We’re all very short and I’m too dang old to clambor up the side of hm. He goes western. We did have him in training this summer to see if he would make a HUS prospect, but no. EXCELLENT ground manners, 100% sound. Lots of “go” but no buck or rear and very controllable. He can trot forever, would make a super endurance horse. Big lope. He does require a home where someone knows about proper weight, he generally gets grain and free choice hay to keep looking wonderful. Good feet, clean legs, very very nice horse.

I am *possibly* in the market for a horse for my colleges rodeo team. One of my sorority sisters is on the team and has a great place to board, so I was thinking about looking for a prospect since my mare is not exactly rodeo material.

I would be interested in a mare or gelding (doesnt matter), preferably a QH (but Paints, Apps, etc are fine), and should be near or over 15hh. I would love to rescue an old ranch horse from an auction, or find a young (not ruined already) prospect. I am a college student so I dont have an extra couple grand to fork out, so I would like a reasonably priced one.

This pony NEEDS a good home:

Selling for a friend – I really want this pony to get a good home: Very cute 12H, 8 yr old, Black and white pinto pony. Was started by the Amish for riding and driving then had 2 years with a family that spoiled her and she developed some bad habits under saddle and she became very nervous to handle. She has been restarted driving and is making progress but she is VERY GREEN for arena work. She willingly goes down the road and is good with traffic. She is also very good about standing while you have a conversation. Her ground manners are good, she leads and ties well and is good with her feet. I haven’t tried clippers and I don’t think she has ever been shown. She does have a bump on the front of her left knee that doesn’t bother her and she is sound on it. I also think she needs her teeth done. This pony needs a confident, experienced whip to take the time and finish her into a fancy pleasure driving pony. She is not suitable for a beginner or nervous driver at this point, but might be with more training. She is broke to ride, but will need a good rider to get her correctly trained. I have an awesome thoroughbred gelding for sale. He’s for sale because I got him when the economy was great and I had a steady, full-time job. He was going to be my eventing horse, but then the economy tanked and I can’t afford a trainer and show tack and show clothes, etc and he’s not at all happy to be my trail horse. He needs to go to someone who will use him to his full potential.

Specs: 2003 model, bay/brown gelding, 16 hands, registered as My Guy Ely but called Bailey, raced twice as a 2-year-old, retired sound. Bailey has impeccable ground manners and does everything he should (ties, clips, stands for vet, farrier, etc). No vices. He does okay outside but should be in a stall when it’s wet and/or cold. Bailey’s been rail ridden and has yet to spook at anything (when he was 4, I rode him up the middle of a cattle ranch at feeding time with hundreds of cows milling around and mooing… Bailey didn’t even twitch an ear). He’s never offered to buck, rear or bolt. Schooling in a heavy copper-mouth eggbutt. He lunges nicely and has basics under saddle: walk, trot, canter, whoa, back. Currently schooling working on the bit and started over cross-rails. Bailey will absolutely try his heart out for his person and is very people-oriented. He’d rather hang out with me than be with the other horses. He’d make a great evening horse for a pony-clubber or an adult rider wanting a quiet, steady mount. Asking $2200 but price is negotiable to the right home. Located in Louisville, Kentucky. Please email at: laiqalasse@scaredofsunlight.net Would consider a trade for a trail/distance horse of similar value. Pics are available.

I really want to find a great home for this guy – he is soo talented and wants to compete at a much higher level than I have any desire for…he would be incredibly competetive eventing, but could also wow in the hunter ring as well :-)

8 y/o 16.1h TB gelding….Flashy, beautiful movement, and huge scope over fences. “Milton” went to his first (dressage) show in October and came home with 2 first place ribbons and the High Point Champion with scores of 71.5 and 73%. He has been schooled cross country, both under saddle and on-line, up to novice and pre-lim respectively. He has also been free jumped up to 4′9″, clearing it easily from a trot. Milton has been out and exposed to many different places and things, including obstacle courses, and group trail rides (even a camping trip!), and has been to several different barns to school in different environments and has done well in every situation. Two years off the track, Milton had a year of professional training where he was w/t/c nicely and jumping smoothly around 2′6″ hunter courses; he has also schooled up to 2nd level dressage. He has been in light work for the past year due to my time limitations and is doing well. He bathes, clips, stands quietly for the farrier and self loads on a trailer. Milton is very easy to work around and has excellent ground manners. He is suitable for an intermediate to advanced rider. Milton has a solid mind and body, and has the temperament, movement and scope to take you to the top levels in any english discipline – take advantage of this opportunity to have a partner you can go all the way with!

I’m located in Texas, and I’m looking for a horse to free lease. I’d like to ride, but I don’t have to. I’ve worked for a dressage trainer, two hunter/jumper barns, and an All Western barn. I’ve also ridden English and Western. My schedule is kind of funky during the week [monday-friday] because of school and work, but I do have time to come out and work. I’m willing to clean stalls, feed, water, and help out with anything else you need. I live closer towards Dallas [about 30 minutes from Down Town; 45 minutes from Arlington; 30-45 minutes from Keller/Southlake.]

I am looking to sell a 1987 AQHA registered Appendix mare that we took out of a bad situation about 4 years ago. She’s a lovely dark (black) bay with a white star. She has very nice gaits, nice soft trot and canter. She’s got a big motor on her, she’s not a deadhead so she needs a rider with some experience. She’s very well trained and has excellent ground manners, bathes, clips, loads, everything without issues. Sorry I don’t know much about her history except she was used as a broodmare for several years. I have her papers and can transfer her registration. She’s great on the trails and on overnight camping trips. I believe she would be great at just about anything you’d want to do with her. She’s 15.2h, 1,050 lbs. Holds her weight well with Nutrena Senior twice daily and good grass hay. She looks more Thoroughbred than QH and her registered name is Pamela Pali, barn name Momma. E-mail me at christy_sharpe09@yahoo.com for pics and a video. I’m more concerned with her getting a good, loving home with someone who has the time to use her and enjoy her than I am with price, so we can negotiate a price if you’re interested. She’s just a super “been there done that” type horse. We’re located about 60 miles northwest of St. Louis, MO.

I’m on the east coast. OTTBs can be had for *free*. No need to pay auction prices or even worse pay the jacked-up “ransom” some brokers claim you must pay to stop horses from going to slaughter. Just get your name out there as a responsible person among the TB trainer folks, and the offers for free horses won’t stop. The Rescue I’m involved with can get as many as we want, but the bigger problem is finding skilled riders to do the retraining (plus let-down time from track plus a higher-grain diet = $$$). As always, it’s not the purchase price of the horse but the cost in getting him ready for you to ride & maintaining him that’ll cost you.

  27. wenindoubt says:

I think this is a fitting analogy given the Thanksgiving Holiday, You know the saying your eyes were bigger than your stomach? Well, it appears I did the same thing with a horse. I will admit my own greed. I am no longer a teenaged girl doing low level eventing and always bothering my instructor for bigger spreads and more jumps. Always. My horseflesh, usually school hacks, were never enough to keep up with my dreams. But my parents were teachers and they did the best that they could for me. I dreamed of a huge thoroughbred that sloshed through water and could leap the moon.

Well, now I have her. A trainer, who was using her as a broodmare after an owner surrender, lost her farm at Christmas last year. I guess you could say I got pick of the litter. (and then placed all the rest of her horses in good homes) PROBLEM!! I’m 35 and I have bad knees thanks to those jumps. And three kids who need their mom in one piece. I don’t have the courage I used to have either. Wow she’s big! I admit, I’m scared to get on her and right now lessons are just not in the $$$ cards. She is way too much horse for me. So here goes!

1994 OTTB Mare. 16.2hh. Bay. Was a riding horse prior to being a successful broodmare. Three beautiful gaits! Previously had a trailering accident and requires some patience. Mercedes ground manners, do whatever you wish, she’s easy to deal with. Will stand loose in the pasture to have her mane pulled. Enjoys being told she’s beautiful, with this horse consistency and flattery will get you everywhere. Enforces her “Mare Bubble” in the herd. LOVES people! Well bred, Princequillo x4, Damascus, Nasrullah. By Pledge Card out of Never Always by Tantoul. Pedigree available on Pedigree Query, Always Half Moon. Would cross well on Warmbloods. Ideal home would be a devoted solitary owner, stall with daily turnout. Deserves more attention than she’s getting. I just don’t have the courage to take her where she could easily go. goddard_r at msn dot com

I have a large (14.2 perm card) pony for sale. He has shown up to 3′ in the regular pony hunter division and placed 26 at pony finals out of 90 something ponies with a young rider. He is 9 years old, grey, and has schooled over 3′ 6″ courses and 4′ singles. He is a welsh/ trakahner cross with LOTS of scope and a huge stride. He does need a confident rider because he can get a little strong, but he also love to pack around little kids and take care of them. he is currently located in Kentucky, but could be brought to new york, if you are serious. We bought him as a 3 year old and was brought along slowly and correctly. has auto changes and frames up nicely. pictures and videos avallable at kcyoushowgirl@aol.com. Secret has never been lame a day in his life. To a good home only, please!!

    Quiche (For Sale)
21 yr. old black reg. Trakehner mare. 15.2hh. Everyone who sees this mare comments that they can’t believe she’s 21 yrs. old. She will go and go. She’d make a nice addition to an active lesson program for intermediate riders. She’s done 3rd level work and was a champion at 2nd level at the Regional Championships in her younger days. She knows and can do flying changes, counter canter, half pass, shoulder-in, renvers, travers, etc. She has not been shown in a while but could be if someone wanted to put some maintanence into her (hock injections). She currently works without bute or any type of suppliments and has not been injected. She is mainly very sound with occasional stiff days that she usually works through. With some support – she would go even better. I recently pulled her shoes – her gaits are bigger with shoes on. Quiche can be a little buddy bound which is not an issue with an assertive rider, however a more timid rider would do best with her in a group setting. I would like to see her go to a program that can make better use of her talents or an intermediate rider looking to move up a level. She’s got quite a few good years left in her. See attached photos (black horse). I am asking $800 to move her on quickly or would consider a trade – either for a stocky, beginner safe type horse or a younger prospect. Or even a trailer. I can send more pics if interested.

    JD Desert Storm (For Sale)
JD is an 18yr. old chestnut reg. Arabian gelding. He is approx. 15.1 hh and big bodied for an Arab. He can carry smaller adults. He has been in my program for 3 yrs. He does well with adv. beginners and up. The only reason I don’t use him for very beginners is that he has a bigger trot. JD has done many 4H shows and dressage shows. He loads, ties, stands quietly for the farrier. He is a super sweet horse. He is a great trail horse. I’d love to see him go to a trail rider looking for a quiet, smaller trail companion. He will not cause you trouble. The only reason I moving him out of my program is that he is a little small to fill his schedule (I teach mainly adults). I think he can carry up to 150lbs easily. I probably wouldn’t ask him to do more than that regularily. He has been sound for me and is barefoot. Great in pasture, lowest on the ladder. I am asking $800 but would consider offers to a good, trail home. I’d like to see him retire from lessons and have a friend to finish life with. Knowing Arab’s live forever – it could be awhile! I know several in their 30’s! See attached pics – chestnut horse. I can send more pics if interested. Will consider a trade – either for a stocky, beginner safe type horse or a younger prospect. Or even a trailer.

Codi (For Adoption through Bright Futures Farm)
This pretty mare was pulled from a kill pen in September. She has gone through QT and is sane, sound and healthy. She is about 4 or 5 years old, 14.2hh and almost 1000lbs. She is SUPER sweet and totally LOVES people. She is not broke for riding yet, but should be pretty easy to start. I think this mare could do anything – her possibilities are endless! Codi could be a QH cross, haffie cross, or possibly a mustang cross. I think she’s got some cold blood in her because she has substantial bone, a good sized head, great feet and is not in a rush to do anything. She seems to have no bad habits – no cribbing, no kicking, no biting. She is fine with touching her all over and picks up her feet very nicely. I was planning to start her in April (only because I’m strapped for time right now with full time work and school) and I’m still willing to put 30 – 60 days of work (free of charge, if her adopter would so desire) into her when spring rolls back around.

FHOTD: I have a 6 year od Arabian mare who might fit the description in your original post. 15.1hh sticked, grey, not broke, great stride, good disposition. The disclosure is that she suffered a vaginal tear during foaling (prior to my owning her). It was surgically repaired but I really feel she’d be better off as a performance horse than to breed her again as I have concerns as to how the scar tissue from the tear would affect future foalings and her comfort. I think she’d make a wonderful endurance prospect.

I am desperately seeking a safe, sane, sound all around horse/pony to teach my children to ride. Kids are ages 5, 10 and 14 and have NO experience with horses. I have been at this for a while now and I really don’t want anything lame, older than dirt or something you just picked up at auction and want to flip right away. I like to see my kids grandchildren if you know what I mean ;o)
Would love something around 14 – 15 hands, stocky build, good ground manners, no vices (biting, bolting, spooking, cribbing, weaving, rearing, etc.). Breed, age, mare or gelding doesn’t matter, just want something with a great mind and a willingness to put up with kids and dogs.
My kids are great with animals and can’t wait to have a horse of their own. This horse would also be a companion to my 8 year old QH/Arabian gelding who is very submissive. If you have an older been there, done that, got the t-shirts equine friend that you would love to see go to a great home. Please send me an email! Will be used primarily for trail riding, but the kids may be interested in pony club or 4-H at a later date.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We are located near Guelph, Ontario Canada. Cheers! Lynn

Please, PLEASE ensure that you get your kids lessons before you get them that horse or pony! :)

Horses don’t teach children to ride. Riding instructors do. Ask around at local feed stores and horse shows, etc, check references and talk to any potential trainers/instructors extensively, asking a ton of questions before committing to lessons to be sure they are the right person to instruct your kids.

Best of luck ~ I simply worry a great deal when people want to go out and scoop up some horse or pony to “teach the kids how to ride” on their own!

Anyone interested in my 15 yr old Appy? We are in north-eastern Colorado.

I haven’t been trying to sell him, because he hasn’t been ridden much since he was broke at 2 1/2. Being fat and all, he would probably wind up going to Mexico. We have to sell our place and move to something less expensive, and I probably won’t be able to afford board at a decent place. (I’ve been checking.) He was given a good foundation. I haven’t personally ridden him at all.

He’s a bay varnish roan with a spotted blanket. Has a decent mane and a full tail. He’s registerable. By blood, he’s actually 3/4 TB. (Decent ground manners; fine w/ farrier, likes being groomed. Somewhat lazy. He can be hard to catch, but will come up to you if you groom another horse in front of him. Will also come for food, but won’t be as relaxed. He also cribs. I think it’s from boredom. He doesn’t “suck wind” to the extent of losing his appetite, though. He doesn’t hate dogs – but will chase them (and might injure them) if they try to chase him.

Great feet. (My farrier admires them!) Solidly built; takes a wide tree. (But he’s fat & unfit right now, and that might change.) I think his conformation is fine; he might be a bit straight in the shoulder, but not much. I think he’s about 15.2, but don’t have a stick. He comes up to my chin, and I’m 5′8″. Not as stocky as a stock horse, but has good solid bone. He is sound.

His pedigree is here: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/bens+easy+duz+it He goes back to Bold Ruler! Waaaay back, know what I mean? LOL

Price is negotiable; I know he’s not worth a whole lot. I’m willing to trailer him if it’s not too far. And I want first right of refusal, and/or to be notified before he is euthanized for any reason except severe injury or advanced age.

    Sadly, Ruthie

2003 APHA barrel mare for sale. 14.3 HH chestnut, 100% sound and healthy – located in Washington.
Jazz is perfect for the youth or small adult looking for a horse that can do everything – and do it well. Spins, rollbacks, flying lead changes, voice cues, shoulder control, hip control, side passes, half passes, and counter bending only begin to describe her extensive training. Though she is started in numerous sports, she excels in barrels and games. Walks in and out on a loose rein, always keeps it clean and never anticipates. This mare can weave like no other. She has won tons of money, a buckle and numerous other prizes. Competed in college rodeo, NBHA, BRN4D and local gaming clubs. Normally 2-3D, but she has won the Youth 1D twice. At only six years old, this girl has got nowhere to go but up. Jazz is extremely sensitive to all cues and has the lightest mouth of any horse I’ve ridden. You can stop her on a dime in nothing but a halter. This mare has tons of trail experience and has been ridden under helicopters and hot air balloons, in the mountains, on the beach, during firecrackers, around cattle, goats, sheep, llamas, dogs, cats, mules, donkeys… you name it! With her adorable face, endearing personality, and impressive training, Jazz is always the barn favorite. Only offered for sale because I can’t afford to keep her and go to vet school

author Nicholas Evans’ FAQ on his website at nicholasevans.com

ACTHA has partnered up with Monty Roberts and is advertising for him. When I contacted ACTHA to ask if they were aware of the controversy surrounding Roberts, the Marketing Director, Tom Scrima emailed me back that, “By the way so far I have found out that Horse and Rider printed a full retraction and apology and actually gave Monty free advertising after their publishing of the article almost 10 years ago.”

I emailed him back, “There was no retraction and apology that I am aware of. Juli Thorson did post on a forum years later, that she and Horse & Rider had been prepared to go to trial but that Monty’s lawyers asked for an out of
court settlement. Part of the settlement, she said, was an agreement to give Monty the full page ad. In the ad, Monty used verbiage that made it look as though H&R had been the ones to ask to settle, etc.”

Scrima stopped emailing me after that, but appears to have redoubled his efforts to promote Roberts, using ACTHA’s email list program.

Scrima had also emailed to me, regarding Debra Ristau and Joyce Renebome, authors of Horse Whispers & Lies, “I also know the person who co-wrote this book had a nefarious motive.” That looks like slander to me. Look up the meaning of the word nefarious.

The USET Foundation is also really cozy with Monty, and it has him scheduled to make appearances at its upcoming fundraiser. Apparently it is very easy to pull the wool over the eyes of people who are wealthy and powerful. Who’da thunk it?

Of all the excellent horsemen there are who are giving clinics and selling DVDs and books, I think we ought to be picky about which ones get our money and our admiration. I hope that prospective members of ACTHA will decide to put off joining the association for as long as it is associated with Roberts.

Roberts’ daughter used to spam wikipedia with advertising and promotional text about him, which is against the wikipedia rules. Wikipedia aims to maintain a neutral point of view and keeps a tighter rein on the page about Roberts now. They have the same problems with Parelli’s page.

I am looking to buy a horse. I ride hunters and do eventing off and on. I am looking for a project. I live in Wisconsin near Milwaulkee. I am looking for something around 3-4 yrs old at least 15hh. Doesn’t have to be broke but I would like it to be at least halter broke and have decent manners (tie, pick up feet, catchable). I prefer mares but will consider a gelding. I’m not looking for a specfic breed but would like TB, App, QH, Paint, Draft x. Basically I don’t need a gaited horse or your QH/TWH cross that would be a good prospect because he jumps out of your pasture. I want a horse to train over the winter and show in some green hunter stuff in the spring. I am not looking for a keeper. I just want to give a horse some skills to keep him/her off of the slaughter truck and re-sell in about a year.

I have 2 for sale at this time….both due to health issues of the owners….

6 Yr old APHA BS 15.3H 1100lb Chesnut Gelding. He is safe on the ground – farrier/vet/bath/groom/load etc., started but really still green under saddle. Due to health issues the training has been hit and miss…he has been to a few trail rides and does fine, but has not been shown. If he’s not sold by spring, he will probably go to the trainer for more consistant time. His movement is very HJ with a great floaty extended trot – can go both ways but would be more suited english. He is friendly and willing, would love to have a job. He needs wet saddle pads – lots of them.

3 Yr old AQHA 14.3H 1000lb Grulla Filly. She too has all of her ground manners, lunges etc. She is the friggin’ Walmart Greeter – LOVES attention and loves work that makes her think. She was lightly started under saddle this summer but she is still growing, so we didn’t push it at all. She would do better at western disciplines. She is eligible for all kinds of color registries as well as foundation if you like to collect paper, she also has some unique brindling on her flank, so she stands out in the show ring. She was shown as a weanling & yearling in a local futurity and placed. She was to be my replacement horse for my old reliable, but back surgery removed my desire/possibility to ride anything young.

I have more pics and videos of both if anyone is interested. jwr2413@gmtel.net Thanks Cathy for this opportunity!

    Excellent pictures…

Love the background. Grass under the feet is always a good thing.

The only think I’d change on him would be his mane. If you pull it shorter it will accent his neck more. Believe me… I’ve done some seriously pencil neck OTTBs and it comes out great. I’d also lose the Arab bridle path and have the mane grow up towards the ears with a small bridle path just wide enough for the halter and the mane tapered up to that (just small details). He must be one of those TBs that grows quite a forelock (rare). Love that busy tail. Excellent choice in halters and well fitting.

Everything else looks stunningly EXCELLENT. If I was looking for his type at the moment, I’d snatch him up tomorrow. Wonderful job you’ve done.

Now on to the rest of the cuties.

I took back a filly from a gal I sold her to as a baby. She is going through a divorce and I have an open door policy. She is a CUTE but tiny black bay purebred Arabian. She should mature at 14.2 tops. She has Khemo/Raffon/Padron and DWD Tabasco breeding. She’s not typy fancy or exotic, but she is CUTE and STOUT and CORRECT. Great legs and feet. (I’m a leg gal) She is SUPER cute and I could see her being a very high dollar little pony club horse. I know her athletic ability as I own her sire. She was a product of an outside breeding a few years ago, then came here as a baby, then sold for good money for her owner. She is coming 4 this next Spring. I would entertain the idea of GIVING HER AWAY if the perfect person would come along that would show her and not just want her to breed because she is a registered purebred arabian with some famous lines. I won’t keep her for breeding myself…

I don’t have any pictures, but I sure could get some hairy winter ones. But that is a catch 22, because no matter how much people say they can look through a picture of a fuzzy horse, they still don’t look their best….but seeing them in person is a different story.

1995 Reg Gray QH gelding. 15.3 1200 lbs. I sold this horse about 8 months ago. He is up for sale again because the new owner doesn’t have time for him(mother of 3). He was in training with me for just over a year. He is a FANCY horse that would do well at the breed shows. Very deep hocked and slow legged. Easy to ride, but not for beginners. Goes both hunter and western. Excellent out of trails, not spooky. No vices or soundness issues. I haven’t seen him since I sold him in March, but still have pictures of him, and if someones interested in him, I can get you in touch with his owner. Site and reference checks required. She is asking $2500

I also know of several others available. Just let me know what you are looking for! =)

I can’t say that I’m in the market for a new horse, one is more than enough. I do think I would offer my horse for a riding lease at my barn if I could find the “perfect” person. She’s a 5 year old OTTB, 16 hands, off the track for 15 months, in dressage training for the past 8 months. Located in Snohomish County (Washington). Winter is here, and I can’t ride as often as I like. She’s amazing, but that’s easy for me to say. Indoor arena.

I have a tiny Swedish cross for sale. He is by Amiral (Kyra Kyrklund’s 2 time olympic mount. He was forth at the world cup in dressage and scored perfect 10’s across the board) out of an Irish tb mare by Roman Quest. Aven is 14.3hh. He IS FEI pony sized when barefoot. He is green but extremely easy to work with. No buck, spook, bite etc (as much as can be said about a an animal)

Balanced flowing gaits, naturally pics up the right lead. Excellent pony club prospect, or dressage prosepect for a junior or smaller adult.

I have a 16hh dark bay 2004 AQHA Artful Move (x Dinner Invitation by Invitation Only) mare for sale in lower Alabama. “Tor/i” is a very sweet mare but in the two years I have owned her, we never “clicked”. Tor is currently in training and will be ready to go show soon. She has been to a few local shows and placed very well in them; once she settles down at the grounds, she is perfectly fine. She has been started over fences and LOVES to jump, she is very large stridded and extremely flat kneed and is perfect for the hunters. She needs a confident, but fair, rider to help bring her along. Aimed toward a Youth/local Am rider who loves to show. Tor is still a bit young and shows her immaturity in a few ways so she needs a rider who is consistent in riding 5+ days per week. This mare really could be your next hunt seat superstar!

Tor is bargain priced because she MUST go.

Please email CHatfield@smwc.edu for more information.

We’re currently keeping a horse that belongs to my father-in-law. Cookie is a reg. Spotted Saddle 4 y.o. mare (gaited, but loves to canter). She was very green when f-i-l bought her and too responsive, which made him nervous, so he sent her to us so that I would advertize her. While waiting on a potential buyer, we worked with Cookie and 2 months later she was a dream of a trail horse. Which is why f-i-l took her back. Only 3 months later he sent her back to us to advertize again. This time Cookie was on a verge of a nervous breakdown. Retraining her after improper handling is turning out harder than it was to train her the first time, but we’ve made progress in the 3 weeks she’s been with us. I’ve been trail riding her bitless and she is responding well – by “paying her forward” with trust I’m starting to gain her trust back. I’m really hoping to find Cookie a good home because I fear that f-i-l will change his mind again once Cookie is back to normal. He just can’t get over her “flashy” looks :(

Horse is near Dayton. 6 year old (I think, close to that anyway) Arab mare, not broke but all the ones from the farm have been easy. Owner doesn’t have email but if you’re interested, email me at akela83@att.net and I can give you a phone number.

I cringed at the picture of the baby horse flinging himself haphazardly over a feeder(?) and being offered as for sale and being schooled as a jumper? WTF! He’s a baby! And if the feeder is part of the “schooling” program, I doubt he will still be sound by the time he can be ridden (next year?)…

    • impromptu says:

The subject of this “registry” was brought up on the haflinger yahoo group not long ago. A good question was: since Haflingers are always a solid color, when they are bred to a spotted stud, even if he’s homozygous, some of the babies will be solid; so what is their future? A solid mutt? Food prospect instead of sport prospect? And lack of knowledge about proper training is just glaring… Very sad.

I am fed up with my current horse forum with all the recipe exchanges and “lookie I got me a purty new ponie I cant afford” topics . Does anyone know of a good horse forum, that takes their horse seriously, with interesting topics for me to read ? Some of my beliefs : euthansia, opening slaughter houses in the States to control the slaughter methods, I think we over medicate our horses…”we” being the owner not the vet, I think a lot of horse people self diagnose without considering a vet call (stupid and typical proceedure of miniature horse people) I believe a lot of the medical problems that occure in miniature horses are developed by their stupid owners, colic, founder ,ulcers, lameness from owner trimming hooves wrong…I am a bit harsh on mini owners , and I have them, so I am looking for someones blog or forum that is also a little harsh on the stupidity of arogant and stupid owners that think they know everything. anyone got a suggestion. and sorry about the spelling , I am in the process of learning 3 languages at a time and forget how to spell. my spell check doesnt work in english.thanks

I have a really nice hunter prospect – born April 2008 – Irish/TB/Belgian WB (not draft!). She is grey, and on the petite side, string tests to 16h. TONS of potential and complete ground work, including breed shows.

She is purpose bred for eventing, but her dam is a hunter and she took after mom. She is a very fancy daisy-cutter type mover, long sweeping stride – and very personable. Unlimited jumping potential. She is in Maryland, and I do offer backing services for my youngstock when they turn 3 (or older) for those who would like a youngster but don’t have a way to start them. I would not recommend her for someones first young horse, though, she is smart and will use that to her advantage :) e-mail celticpridefarm(at)comcast(dot)net

Please tell me if I’m being too forward in asking this, but I work with a horse rescue in PEI, Canada. We have been recently given a donation of around 40 acres of land to construct a facility on. As luck would have it, we just found out about a community development fund contest being put on by Aviva Insurance. The big prize is $250,000 to use for a project to improve your community. That would put up a nice barn and maybe an indoor arena for working with the horses during the winter, and who knows what else! Could I ask, very respectfully, if the readers of this blog could check out the site and maybe vote for us, if you don’t see something else you like better? Right now we are operating on a foster home basis only, but it means that we have to say no to some good, eminently placeable horses, simple because we have no place to put them. The link to our ‘idea’ is [http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf5210]

If you want to find out more about us before you consider voting, our website is http://www.sadiesplace.ca and our blog is http://www.sadiesplacepei.blogspot.com .

I am located in Western NC, and I have a 22 year old, 14.2 hand fleabitten grey registered Arabian mare I would like to offer for free lease, or to the perfect home, free adoption. I don’t have her papers because I received her for free when her former owner went away to college, and she didn’t want me to try to breed her or try to make any money off of her. Now I’m doing the same thing. I do know that Sophie comes from good bloodlines, and that she spent most of her early life as a seriously competitive show horse, mostly in Arabian classes, Western Pleasure, and HUS. She is very athletic and versatile. In the past ten years that I’ve owned her, she has done absolutely everything under the sun, from barrel racing to jumping. She’s spent years toting around summer camp kids, and even worked very successfully for awhile at a therapeutic riding stable. She’s taken everyone from my seven year old niece to my seventy year old stepfather on trail rides, along with all my absolute beginner teenage friends. I trust this horse with my life. She has great ground manners, and no barn vices. The only negative things I can say about her are that she gets a little herd bound when kept with other horses, and when being ridden in the arena, she likes her personal space. She’s great on pasture alone, with other horses, or other (non-horned!) livestock. She has never foundered or colicked, and is 100% sound, save the occasional cold-wet-day aches, but those are easy to work her through. She has fantastic feet and doesn’t need shoes, even for trail-riding. (Unlike my QH, who gets oww-y toed even looking at gravel.) She would make a great addition to any summer camp or lesson program, or just to someone’s back yard. My ideal home for her would be maybe an older couple with horse experience, looking for a safe horse for the grandkids and the occasional trail riding partner. I would love to keep her forever, but I’m leaving for college soon, and I’ve already got my coming 27 year old brat of a QH gelding to worry about boarding. I sadly cannot afford both. I love her to death, and I would really like to find her a caring home who will be able to give her the retirement she deserves.

He is bigger than a miniature but smaller than 12hh (if I knew ahead of time I was posting the ad I would’ve asked the owner). He came from an abusive home and is still shy, especially with tall people and males. He was a 4H project for a teenage girl who no longer has the time for him. He rides and drives but needs an experienced rider. He is built really nicely and is quite fast for being so short. He is trained on the barrels and poles. I have a couple of Welsh ponies available for sale. They are located in SW Ohio. This is not a fire sale and I have plenty of hay to get through the winter. These are quality animals who were produced after careful planning.

    http://sommerponyfarm.com/sales.html

Gallod Ji-Binc – 12.1 hh Welsh Pony of Cob type. Binky is a 5 year old, chestnut gelding. He has been broke to drive, but I have not hitched him since I bought him. He is stunning and very flashy with a wide blaze and high whites. Binky has too much knee and hock action to be a hunter pony, but he will be fantastic driving. I have him listed on my website for $4,500, but will give a serious discount to a driving home. Binky is too tallented to be standing in my field!

    http://sommerponyfarm.com/Binky.html

Sommertime Zoot Suit Riot – I also have a Welsh/Arabian gelding for sale. He is a six years old by Sprocket and out of an old stock, Bask bred mare. Zoot has been carefully trained and slowly brought along. He has been shown in dressage, pony pleasure and Welsh English Pleasure. This pony has the potential to be even better than Sprocket because he has an even better shoulder than his sire. His price is $8,000.

    http://sommerponyfarm.com/Zoot.html

I also have two yearling fillies for sale (Sommertime Riddle and Sommertime Oasis). They will be two-year-olds in March. Both have been shown and placed well at open and Welsh shows. Both fillies are by my stallion, Gayfields Silver Sprocket (seen in my avitar), who is a superstar in the show ring. I am not in a hurry to sell either of these fillies, so the right home WITH RFERENCES will be required.

Feel free to contact me at the e-mail address on my website if you have any questions.

I have a grulla mare that I’m looking to rehome. She is free to excellent home only. This is dependent on a buy back contract, a background check, and routine visits from me to make sure she is doing well.

Libby is a 17 year old appendix quarter horse mare. Completely sound, never had any lameness issues. The only time she has been sore was after a 25 mile competitive trail ride, that neither of us were properly conditioned for. She is an excellent trail horse, will go out alone or with other horses. She needs to be worked at least twice a week to behave in top form. If ridden less, I have found its best to lunge her for at least 20 minutes prior to riding. To my knowledge she has never had a bit in her mouth, but I’m sure she would do fine with a light hand. I have only ridden her in a halter, and she does just fine with that. She is all voice controlled, I need only tell her to walk, trot, or canter. Very little leg pressure is needed to move this mare out. She has an excellent work ethic. I have ridden her in English, Western, and Aussie saddles, in addition to riding her bareback the majority of the time. Libby has a very nice trot, and a smooth rocking horse canter. This is a horse that can move fast if desired, the people I rode with when I lived in Montana were endurance riders, so we did a lot of running. My Mother rides her occasionally, and is an extremely timid rider. She does well on Libby when she’s worked consistently. If worked daily, I would say Libby would do well for an advanced beginner. If only ridden once a week or less, she would be suited to an intermediate rider or better, as she gets a little hot when not worked enough. She is from Montana, so has no fears of cows, or other livestock.

The only draw back to this mare is her Uvitus, it does flare up during the summer months, but with proper care; a fly mask, and msm or asprin everyday it can be controlled. At the moment she is a little difficult to catch because of losing a bit of her sight in a flare up this summer. When catching Libby, she will turn her butt to you, with her head in a corner so you can’t put a halter on her. It never even occures to her that she could kick, and I feel quite confident standing behind her all day. There is not a mean bone in this mare’s body. I think Libby would do best if stalled at night , and turned out during the day. As that would require her to be much more dependent on humans for her needs. If worked with a few times a week she becomes much more personable. The way to this girl’s heart is through treats and grooming! She is a very sweet girl once she gets to know you. Please let me know if you’d be interested in her. I might be willing to do a co-ownership, or a long term free lease to see if you get along with her.
I will only give this mare up to an excellent home. If you turn out to be right for her, she would be free with a buy back/give back contract. I don’t want anything bad to happen to this special lady. Please email me if you’d like photos of her, I’m slightly internet disabled, and can’t figure out how to attached them. Also, she is located in Lakeville, MN.
Let me know if you’d like to come out and see her. My email is: kthtrainer@gmail.com

Finally registered so I could post this. I am looking to lease out my lovely TB mare from January until the beginning of September, as I am out of the country for that time. I am willing to let the lease go longer if the leaser really loves her and wants to extend it. There is also a chance, due to some recent family circumstances, that she might be for sale soon, so if you’re looking to buy something that sounds like her, let me know and I will let you know if she goes up for sale.

I am located in Phoenix, she’s in Scottsdale (almost to Rio Verde), and I would prefer if a leaser kept her at her current barn, as I trust her barn owner to keep an eye on her while I can’t. The mare is a chestnut TB, about six years old. She is NOT registered, as she was a rescue, but we do know that she is full TB. I haven’t personally measured her and can’t remember what I was told her height is, but I’m quite tall for a woman and she is plenty tall for me. I would say she’s around 16hh. She is very friendly and lovey. She had about 9 months of professional training in HUS, and then has been ridden by an intermediate rider for the last few months. She has plenty of go, but is very sensible and not spooky. She has been started over small jumps, but we felt at the time that we were pushing her too fast, and have not yet gotten back around to jumping again. She has been around a few shows, but she’s still getting used to that atmosphere. I would love to have someone get her in the show ring – I think she would clean up.

Everyone loves this mare. I just want to find someone to love her while I’m gone. Or to give her a good home if I’m forced to sell her. Contact me at angelalleya@gmail.com if you’re interested. Thanks!

This doesn’t technically qualify as a ’sale’ ad I suppose, but I’m looking for a horse to part-board. As I’ve got a heavy course load and work on top of that, I’m limited to riding one day a week, and I’d really just like to have fun riding. I’ve been been riding a beautiful TB gelding for the last seven months, but unfortunately we just haven’t clicked; if has taught me however that I’m looking for a horse who’s less hot than I thought originally.

My budget is limited but that said, I’m happy to take on chores (muck stalls, feed, clean water troughs, pick paddocks – whatever really) as well. Not interested in showing or being in a high pressure show barn situation (I’m a fairly shy person), just riding on the flat, trails now and then (nothing strenuous) and giving treats! I’m sure this is what everyone’s looking for, but an older fairly quiet horse would suit me down to the ground. I’m in Oakville Ontario and you can drop me a line at thewormwood@gmail.com.

I’m in SE Indiana and will someday hopefully be in the market for a quality, well-trained pony for my now-4-yr-old daughter.

Thanks for your kind words about my ponies. I have worked very hard to build my little program and get everyone trained. I enjoy them very much!

You would be surprised how many Welsh are in this area. There is a club called Heartland Welsh Club (www.heartlandwelsh.org) that is very active in this area. We meet in Greenwood the third Sunday of each month.

The big show in this area is the Heartland show at the end of August. The show is in NC Indiana in a town called Rochester. I am the show secretary for that, so can tell you all about it. There are also some open shows that have kindly added Welsh classes for us. The Indiana Saddle Horse Association has two shows, one in May and another in September. One of these shows is in Cloverdale and the other is at the Hoosier Horse Park near Columbus, IN. The other group that has added Welsh classes is SAHIBA. I have a VERY specific list and I absolutely will not stray from it. Not to be picky or anything but with any luck this dream horse will be my last horse so it has to be just right. :) Northern Alberta area. Looking to buy: solid Palomino only…no Appaloosa/Paint etc. Either ALL four feet white OR no feet white OR both front white OR both back feet white…not one of each, not three white feet. (Wow, I am really picky, huh?) No excessive white on face–prefer just a star but will consider a tidy blaze. Will consider filly or colt (who will get the snip-snip), over 2 years of age. Must have absolutely no vices and must be well handled. I will not consider health problems of any sort–including cribbing. Grade or registered, makes no difference to me–though I have dreamed of learning to show since i was a kid–as long as the horse is healthy, friendly, has decent conformation and is ready to lightly start in the spring. If already started I will ask to be shown what the horse knows under saddle and will not consider a bucker, rearer or bolter…or a horse that has been cowboyed or that is spooky to life in general. I promise a good, gentle but firm, experienced home with plenty of feed, proper vet/farrier care and tons of love. References available.

I live in Arizona. A friend of mine runs a little Throughbred rescue operation for racehorses that are done racing and has some that never made it to the track. Most are sound but she is VERY honest about them all. I have gotten many horses from her. I know for sure right now that she has:
A 4 year old about 16 hh bay Throughbred that cut his leg before his first or second race and retired. I had him at my place for a bit and he is sound. I guess that he is already jumping small courses. He’s the kind of horse you can ride bareback in a halter. Very willing.
A 16 (?) hh blood bay Thoroughbred. I don’t know if he raced or what his story is but he is VERY athletic and very sound. Ready for a new career. He is also young.
I know that she has several other sound and young mares and fillies and some older broodmare type horses. Email me if you are interested and I can give you her number.

We also have an 11 year old QH gelding. He is 15.2 hh and sound and sane. He has done beginner novice eventing with a kid and had jumped training cross country jumps. He is consistently clean. For the last two years he had been in dressage training with a very qualified local training. He is currently schooling third level dressage. Pete would be great for a kid or an adult amatuer who needs a confidence booster. He is great on trails, alone or in groups, and off the property. He clips, loads, and ties, and is a favorite of our farrier. We are asking 12000. Videos are here: http://www.youtube.com/user/mbzimmermanaz1
The first video of the gray mare belongs to a friend of mine. She is young and green but is for sale. The rest of the videos that say Pete are of the Quarter horse. my email is ezstilson@gmail.com

Mare and Foal Thriving After Nebraska Ranch Rescue
    by: Pat Raia
    November 26 2009, Article # 15350
A mustang mare believed to be around 38 years old is thriving, and has delivered a healthy filly since authorities removed her and 208 other horses from the 3-Strikes Ranch in Alliance, Neb., earlier this year, reported Habitat for Horses President Jerry Finch.

In April, Morrill County authorities and personnel from Habitat for Horses and other equine welfare agencies removed the mare and 209 other allegedly malnourished and neglected animals from the ranch after investigating complaints about conditions there. Morrill County Attorney Jean Rhodes later charged 3-Strikes Ranch operator Jason Meduna with multiple counts of animal cruelty. His case is still pending.
Mare removed from 3-Strikes ranch and foal

    Lexi and Audi

Lexi was seven months pregnant when she arrived at Habitat for Horses along with six other mustangs removed from the ranch, Finch said. Rescuers feared the mare’s age would complicate the pregnancy. However the mare delivered Audi, a healthy foal, four months later.

“To have a 38-year-old- mare deliver a healthy foal is amazing, but Audi is perfect,” Finch said. “Both the mother and the baby are still doing very well.”

The remaining animals removed from 3-Strikes Ranch were also placed in adoptive homes.

All are doing well, Finch reported.

This post made me finally register too. I am looking for a confidence builder for my 10 year old daughter. She is an advanced beginner who just needs a steady, calm mount. We are located near Colorado Springs, CO. I am interested in a horse 6 years or older. Old age doesn’t matter as long as there isn’t lameness or weight issues. We ride primarily English, but also love to trail ride and I am sure my daughter will want to show Western pleasure as well. My husband and younger daughter will also probably be riding this horse for awhile. You can cotact me at: breezenscout@yahoo.com NO SPAM please. Thanks!

I’m in the Portland, OR area and have been horse shopping since this summer without much luck. I’m looking for an easy-going, SOUND, well-built prospect for dressage, hunters, trail rides, etc. – maybe a hunter pace, fox hunt, or low-level eventing down the road – just a nice, versatile English pleasure horse. I’m looking for something that’s 4-10 years of age, 16H plus ( 15.3 if not slab-sided), going at least walk, trot, canter under saddle. $5k and under for now (the only upside to a longer search, is that it means more time to save up).

I shouldn’t be looking, but… if anyone in the MD / PA / VA area has an Arabian x, preferably an Anglo-Arab or a National Show Horse, please let me know. I’m not looking to spend much, because I can do most of the training myself so don’t need a horse with miles or experience. Tall is good, minimum 15.2h. I want young (2-7 years) and green, but BRAVE so after putting some miles in it will be a reliable trail / endurance / low-level jumper. Good conformation only – I will recognize the shoulder angle, hip, and ground-eating trot I need a horse to have.

If you want my info it’s SakiBasenji (at) gmail.com. I will wait as long as it takes to find my next Arab x , so if you think you may have something coming up, please give me a shout.

I have an adorable gray purebred Welsh gelding, 12 yrs old, 11.3 hands. Great little beginner pony, w/t/c and does small jumps, cute mover. Stick or spur pony, his favorite word is whoa. My son trail rides him all over the farm, safe as they come and has been sadly outgrown. (Really!!) Would prefer to share lease him, lease includes use of facility with indoor and fabulous outdoor, and 4 lessons per month. Would consider sale to right home with knowledgeable, experienced parents or child in lesson program.

Also offering lessons and training at reasonable rates, our emphasis is safety first, no one is having fun in the emergency room. ;) Located North East Pennsylvania. Email: kelrob12@yahoo.com BTW, we love ponies!!! Even the little ones! We specialize in child safe, size appropriate mounts. References available upon request.

He is coming back from some severe neglect and has gained weight back, but will need a consistent conditioning program. Site checks and adoption contract required. Adoption Fee $550.00

The Chirstmas pony crunch is on!

What I am looking for: Send me any TBs between 3-6 16h and up, OFF THE TRACK ONLY. Sorry only prefer to pick up ‘track brats’ as I call them. They have good manners and they at least turn left and go fast! If you know of any free ones that are sound send them my way. I only say free because I am in Wisconsin and shipping is quite expensive!

If I had about $1,500 that it would cost to get there and back (on top of the $4,000 I have to come up with to show one of my horses next year) I would drive my truck and trailer out to WA and bring back 4 of them. Would bring back more but it is only a 4 horse : )

  92. While not my horse, the barn where I board my mare has a breeding stock paint for sale who I’m worried is going to end up at auction if she doesn’t find a home soon. Dottie is an 8-year-old mare who has been leased and ridden by one of our advanced 4-Hers for the past four years. She is experienced in the show ring and is EXCELLENT in hand — very, very skilled showmanship and in-hand trail horse. She goes English and Western, ridden primarily Western in recent months. She’s done it all — cow sorting, gaming, mounted shooting, trail riding, started on rudimentary reining. Was one of two horses in this year’s 4-H fair to clear the jumping round — she’s still new to jumping but has jumped 2′3″. Very athletic, LOVES to run, would make an excellent barrel racer. She likes to work and is not spooky. Bathes, clips, hauls.

However, Dottie requires a firm, confident, assertive rider who can see her potential and is willing to follow through. She will test her rider and despite her excellent resume definitely still needs finishing. While she has a sweet disposition, if you give her an inch, she will take ten miles. I have seen her go very, very well for her current rider and also for the trainer at our barn, who has no problems with her. Some people ride her and struggle to make her travel in a straight line. (This includes me). She definitely chooses her rider, but under the right hands she is a very talented horse. I’ve known her for four years and I would hate to see her go to auction.

Dottie is boarded at a facility in Oregon City, OR, 30 minutes from Portland. Here is her ad on Dreamhorse. I’m sure the price would be very negotiable to the right person.

    Thanks,
    Jess

I am on the East Coast, western NY to be specific, and I also am overwhelmed with the free OTTBs, can have a huge selection under $500. So it is not all high prices here! You do not have to go west to find the bargains! Finger Lakes Racetrack is closing for the season next weekend and the trainers are desperate for good homes for washed up racehorses. I presently have 3 in my barn who were all young, sound, and sane, being retrained with no issues at all! East Coasters-Please help! You can go to the FLTAP website for more info and contacts. They are the only OTTB rescue facility located on racetrack grounds in the country! Great horses to be had cheap or free, please have the knowledge and expereince to rehab racehorses or be willing to pay for it, though!

Looking for: 12.2-14 hh been there-done that pony for a very small 8 yr old girl to show english at 4-H shows. Manageable health issues ok, must be trustworthy and safe, be sound enough to w-t-c and jump X rails. Any breed, any sex, any age. I specialize in the old timers, have no problem with geriatric care to keep them healthy and sound! Must be in western NY, not willing to travel or ship long distance.

  96. vmattson says:

bvhorses- if you go to http://www.horseridingcamp.com/ email the owner of the place Arno and ask if he has any ponies looking to retire. I trained some ponies and horses there years ago and they have some nice kids horses and ponies that end up looking for homes when they can not take being a camp horse anymore.

  98. I have several great horses for sale for Extreme Trail/Competitive trail, Cowboy Mounted Shooting, and Reining. There are pictures, etc. up at http://www.westernhorsesforsale.blogspot.com
I also have a little rescue case if anyone is looking for a super cute pasture ornament. We rescued a 3 year old “gelding” (once we got him home we realized he is still intact) from a local horse trader here that has a terrible reputation. We just couldn’t leave him there. He is registered through AQHA and is nearly 100% Foundation bred. He is actually over 90% poco bueno bred. He is about 14.2hh, bay, no markings. He has a bum knee – it looks like he was kicked and I am not sure that he will ever make a riding horse. When we got him he was completely wild and he is now halter broke and really wants to love- he is just still a little scared. He has gained a lot of weight but still needs some more TLC. We don’t have room to keep him because we are limited as to how many horses we can have on the property. a good home is a must.
All of these horses are located just north of Fort Worth Texas.
    info@westernclinics.com

  99. Also- I have been keeping my eye out for a nice OTTB Gelding under $1,000. I don’t mind TLC but must be sound enough to handle jumping. Does anyone know of somewhere in Texas that rescues TB’s besides Lope?
    Thanks
